ABAC 3.2.7.1.7 – Student Engagement

Internships, study abroad, and mentored undergraduate research are activities by which ABAC students

·        Reinforce knowledge and concepts learned in class and laboratories,
·        Expand their knowledge, and
·        Learn to apply knowledge in real world, problem-solving environments. 

All internships, study abroad, and mentored undergraduate research shall be overseen and managed by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, or his/her designee, which may include, but not be limited to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Learning and/or the Coordinator of Student Leadership and Engagement.  Furthermore, all engagement activities for which credit is earned shall be supervised by a faculty member:

1.     ABAC has invested significant resources to ensure uniformity of process, procedure, and practice across these student engagement activities.
2.     Engagement activities are central to and integral to academic programs.
3.     Some students receive college credit for engagement activities.
4.     Faculty are charged with developing, supporting, and administering engagement activities.
5.     Faculty are evaluated based on their participation in engagement activities.
